If your roof estimate includes CertainTeed Landmark shingles, you may wonder whether paying more for Landmark PRO makes sense. Both are architectural asphalt shingles. The practical decision comes down to the appearance you prefer, the product specifications, the warranty terms, and the upgrade price for your particular roof.

Landmark PRO is worth considering if you prefer its Max Def color blends and want its longer advertised algae-resistance warranty. Standard Landmark remains an option worth comparing when the additional cost would stretch your budget. Either way, compare complete roofing systems and installation scopes—not just the name printed on the shingle wrapper.

What Is the Difference Between Landmark and Landmark PRO?

CertainTeed positions Landmark as an architectural shingle and Landmark PRO as a premium option. Its current product pages list the following features:

Feature

Landmark

Landmark PRO

Shingle type

Architectural asphalt

Premium architectural asphalt

Appearance

Dimensional design; colors vary by market

Max Def color blends with greater contrast

Advertised algae-resistance warranty

25-year StreakFighter limited warranty

30-year StreakFighter limited warranty

Current advertised impact rating

UL 2218 Class 3

UL 2218 Class 3

Initial SureStart protection

Check the exact product being supplied and its current warranty documents. Product generations, regional availability, installation requirements, and coverage limitations matter. A feature shown on a current product page should not automatically be applied to an older roof.

Does Landmark PRO Look Different?

Landmark PRO's Max Def colors emphasize contrast and dimensional appearance. Whether that looks better depends on your home's brick, siding, trim, and lighting.

Ask to see physical samples of both shingles. If possible, look at completed roofs in the colors you are considering. A small sample or a phone image can look different from an entire roof viewed from the street.

For Birmingham-area homeowners, it helps to compare samples against the actual exterior of the house. Check them in sunlight and shade before making your final selection.

How Much More Does Landmark PRO Cost?

There is no single upgrade price that applies to every roof. Ask your contractor to quote Landmark and Landmark PRO using the same measurements, labor, accessories, and replacement scope.

Roofing materials are commonly priced by the square. One roofing square equals 100 square feet. The material order also needs to account for waste from cuts, hips, valleys, and the roof layout.

For example, if an estimate includes 30 squares of field shingles and the quoted material difference is $25 per square, the field-shingle difference is $750. That is an illustration—not a current supplier price or a complete installed upgrade quote. Taxes, accessories, delivery, and contractor pricing may change the final amount.

Ask for the total installed difference in writing. That makes the choice easier to evaluate than comparing bundle prices alone.

Does Landmark PRO Have a Better Warranty?

The current advertised algae-resistance term is longer for Landmark PRO: 30 years compared with 25 years for Landmark. Both current product pages list lifetime limited coverage and 10-year SureStart protection.

Those terms do not mean every roof problem is covered for life. Manufacturing-defect coverage, algae coverage, wind coverage, and workmanship coverage address different issues. Eligibility, exclusions, transfer rules, and installation requirements should be checked in the applicable warranty.

Ask your contractor which warranty is included in your estimate, whether registration is required, and who handles an installation-related leak. Keep the written proposal and warranty paperwork together.

Is Landmark PRO More Hail Resistant?

CertainTeed currently advertises both Landmark and Landmark PRO with a UL 2218 Class 3 impact rating. Based on those current listings, choosing PRO does not by itself move you to a higher impact class.

An impact rating is a test classification, not a promise that a roof cannot sustain hail damage. If hail resistance is a deciding factor, compare the exact shingles being offered and ask your insurer whether that specific product qualifies for any discount before buying it.

What Should You Compare Besides the Shingles?

Before paying for a shingle upgrade, make sure the roof-replacement scope is clear. Ask whether each proposal includes:

  • Tear-off and disposal of the existing roofing.

  • Inspection of the decking and a written price for additional decking repairs.

  • Underlayment, starter shingles, and ridge caps.

  • The required fastening method for the selected product and roof conditions.

  • Chimney, wall, and pipe flashing work.

  • Evaluation of attic intake and exhaust ventilation.

  • Cleanup and a written workmanship warranty.

An estimate that reuses questionable flashing is a different proposal from one that replaces it. Compare those differences before deciding whether an upgraded field shingle is the best use of your budget.

Is Landmark PRO Worth the Upgrade?

Consider Landmark PRO when you prefer the Max Def appearance, value the longer advertised algae-resistance term, and find the installed price difference reasonable.

Consider standard Landmark when you like its available colors and want to preserve room in your budget for necessary decking, flashing, or ventilation work.

There is no universal winner. Ask for two otherwise comparable estimates and choose the complete system that fits your house and budget.
